Marcia's story
Shy, sweet princess is very anxious to find her furever home.  Hi, Im Marcia, and Im a 4-year-old, beautiful but timid, super loving girl who weighs under 40 pounds.  I was brought to this shelter by animal control when they found me stray with no chip, collar or anything....sigh.  Who knows why this happens.   However,  I am grateful for all the help and attention Ive received from Great Plains.  I was thin, had parasites and really needed medical assistance.  But  thats all behind me now.  Im fine physically, gaining weight and not hungry, all the time, anymore.Mentally I am still adjusting to shelter life.   We dogs do not like living in a shelter, long term, believe me.  Dogs like me, shy and unsure, especially have a difficult time.  We all exhibit our fears differently; some shy dogs hide in the back of their kennels trembling and shaking.  Some shy dogs stand at the front of their kennels  barking, jumping and pushing at the kennel door to look angry and mean.     Im afraid of you when you stand and look at me.  I try to show you that Im big and tough and fearless.   You are outside my tiny kennel so I bark, jump and hit the kennel door with my body until you walk away.  My inappropriate behavior is rewarded by nice people just wanting to look at me in my kennel; and so it continues.  Sadly, so much stress.  Folks, Im not an angry or mean dog, Im just scared!   Please, please ask to meet me out of my kennel, Im such a sweetheart, I truly am.  I adore flopping in the grass and getting a belly rub.  I even do well in the lobby when Im sitting with a friend.  I feel more confident on the end of the leash, with a human I trust by my side.  People can come up and pet me and  tell me they like me.  Believe me,  I start to feel like Im important,  like Im special,  like Im loved again.   I know how to "sit";  I love hot dogs, most treats really, and stuffed animals.   Ill love you too with all my heart and soul.  Im kinda stuck here with people thinking Im scary.  Im actually the one who is scared.Do you think you can come to the shelter and ask to meet me in the play yard?  Ask if a volunteer, who knows me, is around.  They are my friends and would love to introduce us.   Please give me a chance to get to know you and trust you. Then?  Well then, Ill show you the beautiful, loving, sweet girl I really am.  Wont you be my hero and help me blossom again?   It wont be hard, I promise.  If youre patient and understanding my confidence will soar.    Do you want to rescue a dog that truly needs you the most?  If so, please consider rescuing me.  Come soon; I need my hero so very much.    Love from Marcia
